Stargazers Drama Group - Aladdin auditions

Ray Rippingale, the chair of Stargazers Drama Group is appealing for residents of Kilburn, Denby and Horsley or anyone who has a strong connection with these villages (maybe through attending one of the schools) to attend auditions for the annual traditional pantomime - Aladdin.

The auditions will be from 7pm till 9pm on Monday 6th October in the Methodist Schoolroom on Chapel Street, Kilburn.

All age-groups are welcome but those under 11 must be accompanied throughout.

Stargazers needs actors, singers, dancers, acrobats, musicians and generally anyone who loves making an exhibition of themselves!

Ray comments: "It is helpful if those auditioning could bring a piece of performance with them that they have already prepared, for instance a song or series of jokes to tell or a dance, but I will provide something if they come empty handed."

Ray continues: "we welcome beginners and we always do our best to get everyone into the show, whatever their skills might be."

This is the start of a build-up to the performances of Aladdin during the half-term week in February 2009 at John Flamsteed Community School, Denby.

Anyone with queries can call Ray on 01332 882200.

Duffield & The Chevin - walk

Issue 8 of All Things Local features a delightful walk supplied by Angela Clarke of Belper.

Duffield & The Chevin - A walk that explores the countryside to the north of Duffield. The route runs along the top of the Chevin and has views of two contrasting valleys, before reaching the outskirts of Duffield.

The return route visits the River Ecclesbourne before climbing uphill to Hazelwood Hill.

Time this walk right and as long as you take a suitable container, you could return with a good supply of blackberries.

Start: Lay-by on Farnah Green Road opposite turning to Hazelwood (SK 3369 46311)

Route: Firestone - North Lane - Chevin End - Duffield - River Ecclesbourne - Hazelwood Hill - Firestone

Map: Explorer OL 259: Derby

Distance: 4.75 miles

Terrain: Good paths that can be overgrown in Summer

Refreshments: None on route but plenty available in Duffield

Toilets: None on route.
